Review on Cisco Microcell Wireless Booster Antenna by Amy Cook

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great, noticeable improvement, works through exterior walls

In short, this thing really works and works through walls, even exterior walls. Decent signal, even with their Verizon based micro cell it wasn't even nearly as efficient as this one. My wife was with AT&T and had a better (but still weak) signal than me, so I switched to AT&T and bought this device. I'll list some of my results for signal strength (dBm) because I think it's more useful than just "bars". For reference, about -80dBm or less is great (5 bands), -80 to -100dBm is where most of us are actually, which is a decent operating range. (2-5 bars), while results outside of -100 to -105 dBm (depending on phone, 1-2 bars or no service) result in dropped calls, dropped connections or no service at all. I have used iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy 4, both showed very similar results. My house is about 4400 square feet, 2 floors. I started by measuring the results at several locations around the house and outside before installing the micro cell. Selected results were: Kitchen: -105 (was 1-2 bars, not usually the most reliable place to call) Living Room: -100 Outdoor Terrace: -992. Floor Bedroom -97 As you can see my signal was generally weak but usable. But some parts of my house were actually dead zones. After installing this microcell, my results are as follows: Kitchen: -59 (this is the room I installed the microcell in) Living Room: -91 (this is through 2 walls and about 50 feet away) Patio: -85 ( this is next to the kitchen, apparently through the outside wall and about 40 feet from it) 2nd floor bedroom -88 (not sure from the distance but it is actually the "top and more than 1" room from the kitchen, i.e. across the floor and 1 wall ) This caused the device to change my cellular signal from poor/normal to good/great everywhere in my house and yard. As mentioned, Verizon's product didn't work as well and had no noticeable effect through walls. This device only works with AT&T, so make sure you buy a compatible product. The obvious downside is the price, and it seems like cellphone providers should only make them available to people with weak signals. You may be able to convince a support rep of this, but I've had no luck with that. Another thing you need to know is that you must have a wired ethernet connection to this one, it doesn't use WiFi. In my case I used a Powerline Ethernet TP-LINK TL-PA4010KIT AV500 Nano Powerline Adapter Starter Kit with up to 500 Mbit/s. The trick is to minimize interference: no splitters, line filters, etc. between source and destination. But it works if you set it up properly, allowing you to place a wired Ethernet device just about anywhere.
