This Carrier Air Filter answers the question: What if you took a cylindrical air filter, made it big enough to place something on top of it, and built it with the precision of a jet engine? The access filter is very simple. The manual recommends vacuuming the filter twice a month and replacing it every 6 months. Replacing the filter costs the same as the air purifier itself, with a current price tag of around $133. Because of the size and cylindrical shape, you won't find many third-party replacements. There is at least a slim chance that this 100 year old company will continue to support this product in the future. Despite its size, it's incredibly efficient, consuming just 22 watts at maximum power. The power change is gradual and smooth, there are 18 fan speeds, and the minimum power is almost silent, consuming only 4 watts. What I don't like are the button tones that provide feedback when capacitive touch controls are pressed. They're quieter than the buttons on most devices and don't bother anyone, even in the same room, but I'd prefer to turn the sound off. The startup and shutdown melodies are particularly long. The illuminated display is projected onto a metal screen, which looks very nice. The large number in the middle shows the fan speed, and the ring surrounding it shows the current air quality based on the measured dust. The manual contains instructions on how to clean the dust sensor. Other icons indicate different modes and states. The "LED" button turns off the light at night. There's a Wi-Fi button, although the instructions say this air purifier isn't Wi-Fi equipped and don't explain what it's supposed to do. a guard line to prevent things from falling onto the fan, and it's also sloped towards the center, making things you put on it less likely to slide off. It's a fairly stable surface for my high-performance laptop to sit on and gives it extra cooling when working on the numbers. (Disclaimer: the manual warns against using this within 3ft of electronics like TVs?) If you look closely you can also see another grille with smaller gaps which I touched and released a small amount of static electricity. If it's a static screen, this can become a problem if you put thinner electronics in it. Below that is another set of grilles that are angled in a way I assume they neutralize the rotation of the air from the fan. This air purifier is big and expensive, but it has incredible sophistication and utility. This is a great device to clean the air and cool things down from above!
