I've been buying these for many years and I've always liked them, especially for the reinforcement collar. These coupling tubes always came with a good thick forged collar welded to the tube and Curt was the only manufacturer I know of that uses such collars. The last batch was made using a completely different process, which will likely reduce costs. Instead of the nice heavy sweat collar (which can still be seen in the product image) it has a crimped end to allow the collar to "form" into a tube. This has two disadvantages. First, the process deforms the body of the tube, so the gap between that tube and the ball joint is narrow in some places and free in others. The second problem is that there is a large "groove" inside the tube that can collect dirt, gravel, etc. I will try these new style lamps but in the meantime I will look for an alternative product that is made the way it used to be.
