Incredible lens at half the price Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM

I'm summing up my thoughts on this product based on some experience with Sony and Sigma lenses (not a direct scientific test/image quality comparison , impressions only): I recently photographed a wedding with a Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM. It was great but heavy, the zoom ring was tight but it was awesome. Image quality was great, autofocus was pretty solid, and there aren't many complaints. Introducing the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art lens. I love that this lens is much lighter, the autofocus is incredibly fast, the photos are amazingly sharp, and the zoom/focus rings move much lighter and smoother than the Sony GM (the Sigma is weatherproof too!). The lens hood is a bit fiddly, but it's just a cosmetic thing that shouldn't really determine if you're worth saving over $1,000 on a lens. For half the price of GM, you save weight, get access to a newer lens that's less than 4 years old since its release, and you have essentially the same features as GM. Shots from the lens are a little warmer, vignetting is a bit more noticeable, there's barrel distortion, but generally this can be corrected by enabling settings in camera and correcting the lens profile in Lightroom. I was planning to buy the 24-70mm GM before this lens was announced and am very glad I waited. Of course the GM is a little faster with autofocus but not by much but for that much money there's no point in spending an extra $1000 on a lens, you could buy another lens for savings + extra hardware. I love this lens. and i am very happy with it. If you want to see an official user test, check out the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art lens review for the Sony E Mount by Jared Paulin or Gerald Andon. Both recommend it and have more details on their thoughts on why you should choose this lens. I can confirm from personal experience all the positive aspects they mentioned in their reviews. Sigma really gets it, can't wait to see when the 70-200mm f/2.8 comes out, I hear it will be out this year.
