They're pretty strong. And it's handy to have two separate holes on the bottom to choose from for a screw or nail so you can adjust the fit. These 1" clamps won't fit 10 gauge extension cord (the thickest) snugly despite using a narrow screw hole. That was fine with me as I needed a bit of line play, but not too much because I was going around corners every few yards. Those curves in the corners kept the cable fairly taut across the line, but I still had that minimal slack to make small adjustments and give the cable a little forbearance where it kinked.
