Built like an incandescent lamp, the manufacturer chose a sufficiently thin wire that only lasts x hours. This is no coincidence, this is a cable with an amazingly stable lifespan. I've bought 15 red 3ft cables through Revain in the last 2 years and the sound wears off after a month or so if you're lucky and take good care of your gear like me. Never drop, keep pets and children away, use iPod and Bose QC35 headset indoors. Eventually you'll lose stereo sound, you'll wiggle the cord to get stereo sound back, and eventually you'll lose sound entirely. I usually throw them out and replace them when there's only sound on one side of the earphone. Order a pack of 12 cords if you plan to use 1 hour a day, order 24 cords if you plan to use 2 hours a day, and so on. I would have preferred to pay more for quality, but I couldn't find a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable that was a suitable 3ft in length. Good quality cables are 4 to 6 feet long and I put my iPod in my pocket. Who needs a 6 foot cable? I'm guessing someone with a 6 foot torso or someone who hides an iPod in a sock while walking.
