Bought them specifically for skiing as that's what they are advertised for. Socks are too short. The battery compartment is in the trunk. Also, there is no zipper in the battery compartment, so the battery can come out of the trunk. Also, these socks are NOT FOR SKIING. I really wish this was addressed in the questions. Socks may work well, but I honestly haven't tested them other than stating that they aren't made for skiing. 1 star for bad publicity and a waste of time and effort. Also, I think the loss of 2 stars is due to the lack of a cover to keep the battery in your pocket.
