Strong metal zippers, tough (not soft) on the outside but lots of padding materials on the inside and thin plush lining. Considering the low price, I don't think it gets any better for $8. I can't even find phone cases that cheap. This is a really valuable product. The only thing that could possibly be stronger is the flimsy handle, but it still feels good to walk with and if it tears a bit, for $8 it would be nice to replace the whole thing.
