Great tool for a DIY enthusiast

I work a lot with Mercedes Benz vehicles and have my own copy of their Xentry/Star diagnostic system which I use on them but I have children too other brands and my wife just bought a BMW so I wanted something that could diagnose these other brands. I found this Autel MD808 promised to diagnose "all" car brands and the price was reasonable, so I gave it a try. I first used it on one of the children's cars, a VW Passat. She had an issue with no sound in the cabin so I hooked up the MD808 and immediately got an error feeding the temp damper control. Of course, a quick inspection showed that the servo wasn't moving the damper. I then tried it on a Mercedes-Benz and found several errors, one of which indicated a faulty coolant thermostat. I tested it with my xentry tool and it showed the exact same errors. What really struck me was how similar the menu layout and nomenclature are between the MD808 and the Xentry. I suspect the Autel programmers used the Xentry as a base. I have also successfully tested this on several other vehicles including the Ram Truck, Hyundai Sonata and Honda CRV. Please note that this tool does not "code" or "program" the modules so you cannot change any settings in the vehicle, but it can read diagnostic trouble codes from all systems in all vehicles I've tried . It also reads and displays real-time data that can be useful for determining when a sensor or device is failing. The exception to not coding is the recalibration of the electronic parking brake systems, but I haven't used that feature. Speaking of brakes, while it pulls codes from the Mercedes-Benz Sensotronic brake module, it doesn't disable it for service - you'll need to use Xentry or another tool to do brake work on vehicles with SBC. I recommend this tool for those who work with multiple brands of cars. Please note that you can save money if you buy the device WITHOUT OBDII extension cable. I chose this version because I thought it would be nice to have a longer cable, but to be honest the standard cable is quite long.
