Review on Tool Aid 23970: In-Line Spark Checker πŸ”Œ Kit for Recessed Plug - Efficient Troubleshooting Tool by Ron Collins

broke VERY easily. in spark plug and ignition tools

No adapter/fixture could connect the coil I was trying to test (2 fixtures are supplied with the tester). In this case, a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500, I couldn't push the adapter/coil tester far enough onto the coil itself to get to the metal contact inside. So I actually had to remove the metal contact in the nozzle to connect the coil. The coil worked perfectly. Then I put a spark plug tester on spark plug #1. Connector 1 works fine. By holding the fired end and carefully removing the spark plug boot from spark plug 1, the tester wire/cable broke with little to no tension. When tested, there is absolutely no strain relief holding the main wire/cable in the indicator light section of the tester. The only thing holding the tester cord to the lighted section is the actual wire in the cord, not the insulation covering the wire. This wire is very thin inside and the insulating part of the cable should be mechanically fixed, but it isn't. I was very disappointed to see that there was no tension/mechanical connection holding the cable to the lighted portion of the tester. VERY cheaply made and VERY disappointed. I will try to re-solder the broken wire and then tape the cable and the lighted part of the tester with tape to make the cable made without it stronger. I would return the review unit to the seller, but there is no way I can argue with the seller that I improperly disconnected and unplugged the cable. You have to see and do it yourself to see/understand how to do it. My suggestion: don't buy this tester and don't let the same thing happen to you. I thought and still think that a tester is a good idea/tool, but not that particular brand/model.

Pros
  • A flashing light indicates an ignition or fueling problem
Cons
  • Out of fashion
