We live in the mountains, so our backyard and everywhere in the neighborhood is either uphill or downhill over steep terrain. My son loves the traction provided by the tread of these shoes as he plays outside on the rocks and in the woods. They feel more solid and well made than fragile lightweight running shoes. The cushioning around the foot and on the sides seems to hold up well to the daily activities of a very active 9 year old. I liked them so much that I ordered a second pair for him a few weeks ago.
