While researching landscape and architecture lenses on various internet forums and review sites I came across several references to this old lens. (see [.] to read the one that prompted my decision). Turns out this is an old whale lens for an old Nikon camera. It's plastic. It's silver-colored (although you can also find black). And it shouldn't be that good. Thing is, for some reason it's very good. Every once in a while the stars just come together to make the lens click and this was one of those rare cases. I found it used, cheap and decided to give it a try. I'm not disappointed at all. It's extremely versatile, fast, crisp and responsive on my D-80. It has a very flexible zoom range that doesn't require changing lenses for most purposes. It's very light, so it's a great lens to carry around. And above all, he takes beautiful photos. My only regret is that I couldn't find an all black one at the time I acted on my impulse. Silver (and plastic silver) looks like a toy. But it does not matter. I am delighted with my lens, it has become my favourite.
