Review on Speckled Stroke Coat Wonderglaze Bisque by Carol Miller

I LOVE it! Well, except white. But I'll get to that in a moment. I spend way too much money on art supplies and hate buying things blind so I tried to research like crazy. Nada. I gritted my teeth like crazy and bought them anyway and I have no regrets. They are bright. They are shiny. They're food safe (but don't take my word for it - read the packaging!). They are amazing. So far I have used red, yellow, sky blue, moody blue (navy), both green, tuxedo (black), white and cream. This means that this review does not yet cover light blue, pink or purple. My only complaint is that the white/cream crackles with all your brush strokes even after 4 coats. The instructions say the opacity should be at level 3 and most colors apply very well in 1-2 thick coats. Guidance and versatility are the best. While they are marketed as 05-06 cone offerings, they also each have their own 6 cone results on the label. All but a few burn normally at higher temperatures. And also! You can use them on greens as long as you leave bare areas for ventilation. This means that some of my pieces are glazed and finished after a single kiln firing, which is very interesting. The woman who runs the studio whose commercial oven I use couldn't believe her eyes, and neither did I. I am very happy with the results and will continue to buy paints when they run out. . . . except white and cream. For them, I prefer Speedball and Amako. They resemble glaze rather than underglaze, but do not spread. I'm just starting to experiment with other glazes, but I think most of them will work well enough. Unlike other underglazes, they can drip and stick in the kiln. Treat it like real icing on the cake and you'll be fine. The attached dinosaur uses cream, light blue, black "tuxedo" and red. The ball at the end of his cap is actually white under the speedball glaze. It's on brown clay so it did a great job of being opaque. If you enjoy them half as much as I do, you'll be in very good shape. Enjoy!
