Review on 🔌 Enhanced Connectivity with Maxxima Dimmable Downlight Equivalent by Judy Thomas

For homes with old style 8 inch square recessed lights, getting good LEDs was a challenge. There are complete replacement panels, like Lemonbest's, which require rewiring and some box pushing, but these panels are NOT independently listed (UL, ETL, CSA or the like) and cannot be open source, so security largely depends on that on your confidence in the company's design and your own installation. Also, at 8-7/8" square, it's smaller than the 9-3/8" of the existing fairing, which may mean some repairs are needed. But what if you just want to replace the glass insert of an existing surface? undercut? On a unit in my house that is over 40 years old, the glass is held in place by curved tabs. The hole is 6-1/2" square, the glass is 7" square and it is 7-1/16" between the flanges on the frame. Enter these 6" square modified lanterns. They are square so this is the correct shape. They have E26 adapters so no rewiring is required. Now we've come to something! However, not all updated 6-inch square lights work. The OSTWIN and Parmida lights are 7.25 inches - they are too wide. Progress Lighting's 7-inch spotlights are easy to install, but aesthetically a little less than perfect. Measuring 7.1 inches in diameter and almost flat on the edge, these Maxxima lights are slightly oversized. It can be pushed through, the retaining springs must be removed; It holds up very well under the tabs on the mounting arm, but with a couple of flat head screwdrivers and slight use of the 4 letter words they came loose. On the existing trim, unclip the tabs (using pliers and a flathead screwdriver), remove the glass, and clean the inside edge of old debris and dust. Now make sure that all tabs are completely deleted. The two flanges with retaining springs had the rivets sticking out which meant these sides had to be bent further. When outdoors, insert the new light and fold back the tabs to lock. Screw the adapter into the fixture's socket, replace the cover and you've got light aimed down into your room instead of sideways into the fixture's abyss. Aesthetically and functionally, I prefer these Maxxima lights to the Progress lights. The flat surface sits better on the existing surface and because the wider lens is set back less, the angle is wider. However, the cost is higher due to the higher performance, higher brightness and subjectively better color reproduction and it is the current product at the time of this review (compared to the discontinued Progress). Installation required a bit more effort but is not standard use and still outperforms ripping out old fixtures, electrical work, drywall patching, texturing, repainting etc. As long as there are no future quality issues this gets 5 stars.
