Review on Gold Baby Games Drawing Dead by Samuel Groove

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Light, casual poker game

Everyone starts with 15 coins, 2 poker cards and 1 reel card. At the start of the game, the first player draws 2 more poker cards and 1 reel card (4 poker cards and 2 reel cards) and play continues clockwise around the table while the other players draw the same. Your goal is to get the best 5-card poker hand before everyone else. For each card you put on the table, use 1 coin. If/when you play Role Cards they are free and there is no limit to how many you can play. If you fold your 5 cards and it's a valid poker hand, you get the button. If it's your turn again and no one else has hit the button, you win the pot. At the end of your turn, you cannot have more than 5 cards in hand and 5 on the table. Well, my kids and I really like Drawing Dead. As you build your 5-card poker hand on the table, there is a risk that you will fold as some reel cards affect it, but other reel cards also affect what you have in your hand. You have to balance them carefully. We have some internal rules with specific Role Cards to "help" the game as Role Cards change faster with more players. And some of them can be devastating when they change quickly. good game for young players. My son (11) and daughter (13) are just getting started with board game card games, so this is a nice, simple game with a set of familiar cards/rules (regular poker deck) that makes it easy for them to roleplay cards that affect the player's hands. Also, I'm surrounded by non-gamers, so it's easy to compare a game like this to something like Hocus. Although the game may appear "simple", there are combinations of role cards that require some thought. Again a good tutorial for casual gamers and I really think this is the audience for the game.
