I'm always hot and these fans make certain climate zones (Central America, rainforest, etc.) bearable. Not to mention they make the treadmills at my gym bearable. They stand alone - great for putting on a desk or desk and last a VERY long time on two D batteries, although I always carry a spare battery with me. I spent 10 days using it for up to 5 hours every day without changing batteries. By the way, they are much easier to replace than button batteries. They're also a lot quieter than anything else on the market, so they won't bother those around you who don't have problems with dripping sweat. (I think it's always nice to be thoughtful when possible.) They're larger than the smaller portable variants, but far more versatile and pretty easy to hold in your hands for long periods of time. I have made it a habit to use additional funds to temporarily change fellow passengers. Good way to make friends!
