The last external laptop cooler I used was over 10 years ago for a laptop that overheated so much it broke/die. The laptop I am currently using does not have this problem. but when my wife plays it: I listen to the fans at full blast for a long time. I bought this to keep my laptop cool and avoid possible hardware damage to my laptop. That's a nice cooler. My wife loves RGB (and who doesn't, lol). It's lightweight but doesn't feel fragile. It holds a 17.3 inch laptop without slipping. Requires 2 USB ports for power, but can be connected to an external USB hub if required. In terms of performance: on low settings that are almost silent (and inaudible with gaming music). The laptop still runs its fans fairly frequently (1-2 times every 10 minutes), but for a significantly shorter duration (maybe 1-2 minutes at a time). This is already a significant improvement over laptop fans that run at full power all the time. At high speed, with an audible hum that may bother some (it's not too loud and definitely quieter than laptop fans), the laptop turns on the fans about every 20 minutes and only for 15 seconds. : It does its job and looks good. I highly recommend. Also note that we use this stationery on the table. It seems uncomfortable or awkward to use on your lap. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because my laptop has yet to get the fans up to full speed.
