If you're trying to pair an old HP computer with a new monitor, you're going to need it. We bought a refurbished HP 8300, a rugged machine often seen in hospitals. However, it does not have an HDMI output. Instead it has a DisplayPort and you need this cable to connect a monitor with an HDMI input. This way you get the best viewing quality. This product looks and feels solid and works right out of the box with no fuss, but that's what you'd expect from a cable. I've only had it a week so can't comment on durability but I would recommend this cable.
