I confess I bought this because I like gadgets and always wondered if glass files are any good. Well I was amazed at how good they are. You seem to go against everything I know. grinding and abrasive materials, as they cut quickly and are very smooth at the same time. The effective grit is somewhere between 2000-3000, but they seem to cut faster than 400-600 grit. Completely unconsciously, I took out the microscope and was surprised that there seemed to be no abrasive particles at all, and there are round holes (probably etched) in the glass. That means they're more like wooden scrapers than sandpaper. This is also helped by the fact that you don't get nail dust after using it, instead you get an odd thin residue that's easy to rub off. .The black was never used and the white was used almost every day for several months with little to no wear. After I bought it I tried another brand at the pharmacy and it was more like sandpaper and didn't polish at all. I used it to cut a large line on my nail and it actually wiped the abrasive off the glass. With them there is no abrasive to rub off as you simply snip the micro shavings off the nail leaving a brilliantly polished finish. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a nail file.
