I wanted to remove the CD drive and replace it with a second hard drive in my thin ThinkCentre. Lenovo's proprietary hard drive cage is overpriced and hard to find, so I figured it would work well enough. My Western Digital hard drive fit snugly in the center of this adapter, but inserting it into the computer case wasn't easy. Lenovo CD-ROM drives use a spacer that slides and snaps along the drive to maintain tension in the 5.25-inch drive bay. It can be removed without tools, but there are no official screw holes. When I used the same gasket next to this adapter, it didn't fit properly and slid all the way down the shaft. There was only one hole on the outside of the shaft that roughly matched the hole in the adapter and the screw (barely) enough. The problem is that the opening needs to be clear to allow the tab from the main hard drive case to slide in when you close the case. I had to use a hacksaw to remove a corner of the main body to insert a single screw holding this 5.25" adapter in place. Luckily, the new drive lies on its side when it's installed, so there shouldn't be too much stress. I appreciate the simplicity of this adapter, but it really needs more mounting holes for different case types.
