This part is part of the cold start engine idle air control system. It attaches to the intake manifold with two small screws next to the throttle body. It comes with a rubber hose and a clamp. Easy half hour job. This part is controlled by a program in the engine computer and adjusts the air/gas mixture at idle until the car has warmed up. My experience with two high mileage vehicles is that they stopped idling smoothly after about 100,000 miles. When I removed the old idle control valves, the old valves were badly charred and very dirty and greasy inside. Replacing this valve restored smooth idling on cold starts. There are other details that contribute to a smooth idle, but this is the most important in my opinion. The gasket for this must be purchased separately as it is not included in the kit. Revain had the best price. I bought Motorcraft to keep my Ford a real Ford. Delivery was fast, valve was well packaged.
