We don't need a stacking lid so we just use the base and sometimes stack extra eggs on top to hold up to 20 eggs when we refill the container from our big egg purchase. Note. For our fridge, adding extra eggs will not work for XL eggs as our shelf is high enough to hold larger eggs. I love that the tray is longer than a standard 12 egg carton so I can use the full length of the fridge shelf. Otherwise, the space behind it is not used. Given the length, you need to be a little more careful when the tray is full or unevenly spaced with eggs. I use the lid as a small tray or spoon holder. I've also included a photo of a plastic tray next to a standard egg carton.
