If you're familiar with the surface of e-reader tablets and their matte anti-reflective coating, this is pretty much all you need. There is no texture on the surface, it is absolutely smooth but great for painting. I switched from protective glass to this one and it's great, drawing the apple pencil on it gives a "papery" sound but the feel doesn't really change in my opinion. I prefer this screen protector to a screen protector mainly because of its anti-reflective coating. Installation was easy, the video shown here is very informative. However, air bubbles form easily when applying, so be extra careful. Use the dust removal sticker to remove dust bubbles. I was able to get rid of blisters 100%. A good product!
