Review on LG 27UL850-W Display: Enhanced DisplayHDR πŸ–₯️ Connectivity & 4K Resolution, Adjustable - 27UL850-W by Aaron Olsen

It's a huge pain to calibrate and get it working effectively, but great when it's done.

After carefully tuning this monitor, this is probably the best monitor available for UX or graphic design. Anything else just as good costs over $1,000. But there was one thing that took me through dozens of websites to find out, that the type of connection you use determines what settings you can adjust in the monitor's internal menus. It has USB-C, 4K HDMI and DisplayPort connections, but the ONLY one that gives you all the settings, notably gamma/extended brightness and contrast/black/extended color bars, is 4K HDMI. Luckily, I had the 4K HDMI to USB-C cable from the previous configuration handy, so I could still connect my MacBook Pro without a dongle. Before trying every cable configuration known to man, I was so frustrated that I could see disabled settings that I needed to access and couldn't get a brightness close to that of my MBP, making the side-by-side screens look terrible. Once you found the right cable, all the settings were displayed. I did a manual advanced color calibration in the macOS drivers, but that wasn't enough. I ended up putting the same intricate colorful image on both screens and manually calibrating the monitor settings one by one until it was as close to the naked eye as possible. I use hex codes in the design system for color matching so they had to look the same on both screens as I don't rely on digital print transitions or color rates.
