These radios are awesome. Here are some reasons: 1) It requires 3 AA batteries, which can be recharged if rechargeable batteries are used. I like this feature because I like putting new ones in just in case they are dead in an emergency. You can place it in the charging station or connect the micro USB cable directly to it for charging. 2) They operate on the same frequencies as my Motorola T260 Talkabout Radio, 2 Pack so they can talk to each other. There is no need to sell or give away my old set; they are all compatible with each other.3) The range is fantastic. In my area, my kids can go to their friends' house about 1/4 mile from me. Sure it doesn't sound far, but when they're at friends' houses I hear them a lot better with them than with my Motorola T260 Talkabout Radio, 2 Pack. 4) They have backlight and flashlight function. Again better than my other radios because now I can use them in low light conditions. Everything else is pretty much standard for a walkie-talkie. But finding all these features in one device was difficult for me. I've used about 4 radios before and gave up on 2 of them just because they didn't have features I wanted/needed. This set seems to come with the most complete list of features I could ask for. I guess if I had to be picky: I wish they were a little smaller and I wish they could run on scrambled frequencies like my other set does (helps with privacy). Overall this is still a great radio.
