Best under $60

Let me start by saying that while I find this cover far from perfect, I bought the second one after adapting to the first one , and expect that I will buy more than the current wear out. Pros: - Water repellent - my pack stayed dry for three hours in moderate rain - Easy to slip on and tighten even in raincoats - Fits in large and smart backpacks - Fits in a dog backpack (I cut off one direction of the straps and the other under pinched the belly) - Comes with a pouch - Price is very good - Pretty durable and abrasion resistant. There were a few light scratches and it went without a hitch, but I wouldn't stray too far off target. I've got about 50 rain miles and haven't had to caulk anywhere but the bottom. The XX Large weighs 3.3 ounces without the pocket. The large weighs 2.9 ounces without the bag. It's great for this price range. Cons: - The bottom reinforcement is missing, so the bottom waterproofing has worn off and I got a few small tears when I put it on the floor. Easy to patch and seal, but cumbersome and adds weight. Not the best option for packages without vertical height. If the elastic cannot "wind up" at the top (e.g. when the shoulder straps connect to the top of the pack), water will enter at that point. Using an umbrella eliminates this problem. The color is not as bright as in the picture. The blue is muted and the orange is more like burnt orange than don't shoot, I'm not prey orange. I use a different color for the hunting season. The size is not right, especially if you are carrying something on the outside of the backpack. I bought XXL for the 65L Osprey Ariel backpack (and L for the Groundbird Gear Medium/20L dog backpack). Other: - The bag is not attached to the suitcase and has a zipper. Depending on your preferences, these are pros or cons. As with most (all?) pack raincoats, using this one without an umbrella will get your back wet.

Pros
  • Very good value
Cons
  • Not all will fit
