Fujifilm Finepix S9100 - very good camera

I bought this camera about a month ago and took about 2000 pictures before saying goodbye. I've shot indoors, outdoors, tele, macro, anything but video. Sorry, I had to play around with that too, but that's not the main reason I bought this camera. I needed an Olympus C-50 camera that would expand the capabilities and possibilities of my small point and shoot camera (which I am very happy with). I am very happy with the results of the S9100. This is a solid camera. It looks more like my Nikon 8008 so don't put it in your pocket if you take it on a trip. I had three Olympus digital cameras and was about to get another Olympus but was disappointed with their offering in the Ultras class. As I already had several xD cards, the plus point with this camera was that I could choose between two different media types. . I also liked the manual zoom because this camera felt familiar like an SLR. The use of AA batteries was another plus I was looking for. I see some people saying they are disappointed with the battery life, but I don't see that as a problem. I'm using a 2900mAh NiMH battery and I still don't have enough juice for a 200+ shot photo shoot. I haven't used alkaline batteries but I understand they don't last as long. I use the EVF more than a large digital display (probably due to old 35mm camera habits) and that might be related as well. I think the manual zoom should save a lot of battery life compared to some of the competition. There's a lot of discussion about image stabilization and I've never had it on my other cameras so I don't miss it. . I don't have a lot of blurry photos, but I use a monopod or tripod when necessary. But even handheld, this camera produces great images even at ISO 1600. There is some noise but I don't think it's that bad. Printed photos are excellent. I have multiple printers and a large format HP plotter that can print 36" x 36" prints and am very happy with the results. This camera has excellent versatility, great zoom and a macro mode that gives you the perfect opportunity to really immerse yourself in the work. Close. I mainly shot in .JPG but have experimented with .RAW. From what I've read, this format will expand my options, but I need more time to learn about RAW processing before I can have a meaningful discussion. I like the idea that RAW is there when I decide to use it. Conclusion: I am satisfied with my purchase and would buy this camera again. If you're looking for a DSLR alternative that offers more versatility and control, this option deserves a closer look.

Pros
  • The 9 megapixel CCD provides enough details for photo quality. 17" x 23" prints
Cons
  • Not as good as advertised
