So here's what's good and what's not so good about this can opener. Good stuff. Cosmetically appealing. It makes a robust and well-made impression. Cut cans open very quietly and cleanly. It cuts off the entire top so there are no sharp edges to cut your hands on. I like this because you can put the lid back on the jar and it's good enough that the jar of olives or similar can stay in the oven without being covered. Open also opens cans fairly quickly. The Bad: When you take it out of the box, only about 5 inches of cable is visible. Not even enough to turn him on and keep him standing up. You need to disconnect the cable from the device. It may look like you're about to break the cable, but it comes out. You have to keep the lever pressed the entire time you open the can. It's not like the old ones where you click to start it and let it do the rest. Not a big deal but worth mentioning because I might not have bought it had I known about it. After all, it doesn't stop when the jar is fully open. You can hear the engine speeding up as the can is cut all the way around, but it will keep spinning as long as you hold down that lever you have to hold the whole time. So it's not automatic in any way other than rotating the can as long as you hold down the lever. I like the old guy who opens the jar, stops, and then lifts the lid for you when it's done opening. The instructions are very weak. I can't figure out why the lever is getting stuck (except when you use it). Unless it's protection from blade cuts when not in use or something like that, but it's a mystery the instructions can't solve. I'm lucky it never breaks and I'll use it for the rest of my life.
