First of all, this is a $7 product - I don't know what some of you are expecting. However, I imagine it will be annoying if your hands come loose as soon as you take it out of the box. So here's a little tip that will take about a minute and make sure your hands don't break. When I looked at this product before I bought it, it seemed like half the people who bought it had broken hands (like many things, it doesn't work that well if it's broken). The reason the arms break is because the plastic takes stress when flexing, and many avid spool holder buyers seem to get carried away with customizing their product. Whether you snap your arms or not, you will stress the plastic by bending it cold. A simple fix is to use a heat gun (or a hair dryer is also fine, although not as hot) to heat the joints before bending. Put a heat gun on the joint for about 5-10 seconds before bending to soften the plastic (maybe a little longer if you use a blow dryer - although the plastic is flimsy and not rocket science). Then bend your arm outward to 90 degrees or less and release – you still need to bend your arm a bit, see below. To show what a difference this makes and why everyone else broke their arms, I've attached two photos. The first is side-by-side, where you can clearly see that the plastic is taut (and whitening) when bent when cold, while the heated side looks completely normal. There is no stress on the heated side since you are not bending the plastic, you are reshaping it to fit the new position. Don't bend it too much though, as the tension of the bent plastic will hold the rod in place between the two arms - you can see in the second picture that the heated side stays a lot farther away than alone. The bent side is cold - I fully bent and released both sides before taking the picture. If you bend it too much, you can always reheat it and bend it the other way. No it's not the best product but it also costs $7 and fits my board perfectly. I received two of these.
