I use these pads for two purposes: to wax/seal my car paint and to apply conditioner to my vinyl convertible top. I have an orbital buffer that I use to polish my car, but if I just want to apply wax or sealer they do the job well. They are very soft so they cannot harm the car as long as it is painted clean. An important note is that they are NOT good for buffing. To do this you need a harder and more abrasive pad (either very hard foam or cotton). On a convertible top they are better than cotton and microfiber pads because they leave absolutely no lint. Due to the abrasive texture of most convertible tops, microfiber towels lint terribly when applying protectant. These foam pads don't.
