Dangerous for the cat

I very rarely leave reviews for things I don't like, but I find this product to be a bit dangerous. First, it smells very strongly of lavender. Very strong. It may calm the person down, but I don't think it helps the cat. I'm concerned about the chemicals used to make the smell so strong. I have no idea if the cat could sense the pheromones over the lavender. Second, and more importantly, this is not a rip-off collar. There is no way to put it on safely. I've spent 11 years running a cat shelter and I can't tell you how many times we've experienced serious injury and subsequent infection from improper collaring of cats. Too loose and the cat will catch the collar like a gag in its mouth. It's terrible. Too tight and the cat can choke if the collar catches on something and irritates the skin whether it catches or not. This collar cannot "break off" for a cat in an emergency and is really dangerous. On top of that, your cat will most likely freak out and hide if you put this on, and that's no one's reassurance. I understand why the manufacturer makes this thing look like a dog collar, but cats are not dogs and require other safety considerations. I didn't notice the calming effect. I've left collars on the bedding etc to see if that helps but no luck. If you want to try pheromones to treat anxiety or aggression, you can try something other than a collar and no collar. a fragrance designed to calm people down. Or maybe hemp oil. Or a book by Jackson Galaxy.
