Review on Anti-Static Wrist Straps for Industrial Power Tools - Enhance Electrostatic Discharge Protection by Dewitt Graham

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am particularly sensitive to nickel on my skin and afterwards I have a very severe skin urticaria that lasted for several days.

I give it 4 stars instead of 3 because it's quite affordable. I remove the stars because underneath the plastic plate that the wire is connected to is a steel backing plate that conducts electricity to the fabric, which isn't shown in the picture. The anti-static wristbands have a silver impregnated fabric that makes them electrically conductive and this model has it so the steel back plate doesn't have to be exposed to the skin, it had to be covered with a plastic sheet. The steel backplate contains nickel, a metal that can cause contact dermatitis in 15% of the population. I am particularly sensitive to nickel on my skin and have a very severe rash that lasted for several days after using these bracelets for several hours. I had to use tape to cover the steel plates to be able to use them without damaging the skin, but well-designed ESD wristbands should have plastic covers over the steel backplate. If this product had plastic lids I would give it 5 stars for a very good price.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
