They have mounting screws as opposed to the nails on the blue plastic boxes. They screw in from the inside of the box and offer more flexibility when mounting. There is a certain volume loss due to the screw bosses. Some mounting screw tabs may interfere with cable insertion. The first step is to remove the original screws (Phillips® type) and replace them with Torx® screws. In some cases it is easier to insert the wires before assembling the box. Don't expect to pull the wires back out of the box once plugged in.
