Review on SVS Ultra Center Speaker (Piano Gloss Black): Ultimate Audio Clarity and Elegance by Rachel Cooper

Absolutely Beautiful Center Channel Appearance and Sound

Absolutely beautiful looking and sounding center channel. I upgraded to a Polk RTI A6 from an Infinity Primus PC351. The PC351 is a 3 channel hub that sounds great but just can't compete with my RTI A7 towers. So I upgraded to an RTI A6 to fit in and gosh this thing is huge! The first problem was that it didn't match my robe, the second problem was that it was only dual channel. So after much thought and research I came across this SVS Ultra. Wow! Seriously wow! The size is perfect, the speakers sound great. This 3-channel speaker reproduces the entire sound spectrum perfectly. I set the crossover to 50Hz, although it drops to 45Hz. My subwoofer is more than capable of covering the 18-50Hz range. It runs at 125W RMS, which is plenty for that. It goes well with my 250W RTI RTI A7. I didn't have to turn off the speakers, this speaker doesn't lag behind! I liked this speaker so much that I bought SCS Ultra Surround speakers! All of these speakers are very well made and SVS has great customer support. If you order direct from SVS they offer a 45 day free trial where you pay for 3 days round trip shipping. To me, any company that trusts their speakers deserves attention. Cons: Actually the only downside is the price, it's quite expensive! However, I think it's worth the price, it's more than I wanted to spend. But when cheaper speakers don't perform the way you need/want, you get what you pay for with this speaker.

Pros
  • Every feature of the ultra center channel cabinet is designed with sound goals in mind. Tapered edges on the front of the cabinet, known as chamfers, minimize edge diffraction for a clear, accurate sound design. Each enclosure uses separate sealed enclosures for both woofers and tweeters to optimize performance and minimize interactions. Even the grille design is FEM optimized for maximum acoustic transparency.
Cons
  • Hard to say
