If your air conditioner is clicking and clicking when not in recirculation mode, it may need to be replaced. On a 2004 Cavalier or equivalent, this part can be replaced without removing the dashboard. I managed to crawl under the dashboard while lying on a prop on the passenger side of the car. It's not easy to get there blind (some people remove the passenger seat for a better view), but it's possible. This part can be turned off in about 15 minutes. For instructions, search Youtube for a guy doing this procedure on Sunfire. Search for "drive cavalier sunfire".
