Review on Master Tailgaters Replacement For Ford F150 F250 F350 F450 F550 (1997-2007) Chrome Tailgate Handle With Backup Camera by Andy Thorson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The only backup camera worth installing on a Ford F-150 04-08

I didn't want to buy any of these as there were many reviews of this type of secondary tailgate handle with an integrated rear View cameras complain about brittle plastic handles that break easily and are not OEM standard. However, since this seller was offering one with a metal handle, he gave me the confidence to try it. I'm so glad I got it. The metal handle is very durable. The pen looks great and the video quality from the camera is top notch. I was concerned about its performance in the dark, but the truck's low-end LUX camera and reversing lights are more than enough to see obstacles (at least in my opinion). There are two things that caused inconvenience. me. 1) I had to purchase a protective plastic sleeve to bypass the cable and route it through the tailgate and under the truck to protect the cable as it was not included. 2) The camera is not glued, and the instructions specifically mention gluing with silicone glue. It took me forever to line up the camera right in its aperture so I felt like it was perfectly horizontal with the tailgate mounted handle (this required a lot of getting in and out to see the video feed to the main unit and then back to the camera and rotate it slightly only to find I moved it too far etc.). I'd rather they just do it for me so I don't have to worry about that step. It would be even more annoying if the seller stuck it at the wrong angle and I had to live with it or try to fix it. The camera positioning aspect is my only reason for putting a star otherwise I think it would have been a full 5 star product and worth the money.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak
