I've used a manual reading meat thermometer for many years and often wonder how these new digital thermometers will perform. In the end I decided to take and see. i really like it First, the design allows it to be folded like a pocket knife, so you can slip it in your pocket while you're walking around the house cooking. My old thermometer had a long and very sharp tip, so I couldn't put it in my pocket or risk getting stabbed. I would leave the dial thermometer in one place at the end. Also, the round dial of an old thermometer rolls off the grate and falls down. This new design is very comfortable. Next I had to insert a thermometer beforehand and then watch the needle rise (with the grill lid open, losing heat) until the needle stopped at the temperature. This gives you a very fast temperature measurement. I don't know how long the battery will last or how it's holding up over time, but at this point I see no reason not to give it five stars.
