Review on ViewSonic VX3276-MHD Frameless Widescreen Display with DisplayPort, Backlit, 1920X1080P at 60Hz by Chaz Knight

Great addition to my home office

I bought this monitor for use in my home office after bringing my employer owned monitors back to the office. At the moment it replaces two monitors with a resolution of 1920x1200. In that capacity, it's almost as good as the two monitors it replaced. It is easy on the eyes during the working day and offers enough workspace for multiple windows and applications. The combination of two form factors for DisplayPort and an HDMI connection means that pretty much anything I want to connect as a video source is easy to connect. Finally, when I integrate my desktop with my desk at home, the VESA mounting holes on the back will come in handy. The included stand is good, but not perfect. There's no height adjustment and no documentation on tilt adjustment - although it turns out that a light press is enough. It's also not high enough to place the monitor at the right ergonomic height from a standard desk height for an average-sized person. And that's to the point where I think even an average height woman might need a monitor stand to fix it. Switching inputs is easy. The only downside is that the buttons are on the back of the monitor and run down the right side. That's fine for now, but it can get annoying when I set it up as the center monitor in a three-monitor setup. The time will tell. There also seems to be something odd about the way the speaker is presented to connected devices. My working MacBook Pro thinks that DisplayPort speaker volume control is not possible when this monitor is connected and refuses to mute it when connected to this monitor even if another audio output device is active. My linux laptop has a volume control but is very confused about which audio output devices to use for which applications when it has been connected to this monitor since the last reboot. Nothing I couldn't fix with a little fiddling with pavucontrol other than the ability of the gnome settings panel to straighten itself. As usual I don't know and don't care if there is a similar problem with Windows as I don't use it.

Pros
  • ‎No
Cons
  • The monitor's response time is too slow.
