I am a professional artist and I love that this product has so many different uses that the two sides make it great . Great if you just want to sit on the couch and paint with watercolors. Because I just take that and some of my Nupastel crayons and I can make a great palette. The textured side is great for Caran d'ash Nupastel, Eau de Toilette, Faber Castel Gelato and Derwent Inktense, it works for us too. watercolor pencils. The smooth side works great with all brands of watercolor markers. Especially when you need smooth gradation, as many papers don't allow you to completely hide marks.
