The backlight works great and the adhesive backing is quite strong. Make sure you sand the surface lightly and wipe it down with a pre-coat surface cleaner before sticking, but it's been 2 months so far and all these lights are holding up great. The lights are bright and I love that they have splice wires on either end so you can connect the other strand to either end. I also applied some 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant to both ends of the threads on each side to keep the protective adhesive on the ends where it would most likely come loose. I didn't have to trim them, but the lights are made for when you need them.
