We traveled with a very long corgi. She is 8 months old, 17 pounds. and it was necessary for the entire (from beginning to end) extensible section to be comfortable. The outward facing side is curved. The square shape gives your pet a little more space. Having tried several, this was the best fit for us and our corgi.
