Hybrid pour/drop.

This is an interesting coffee maker because it tries to replicate the pour-over method in a filter coffee maker. In a way, this is similar to how the drip world tries to get back to Melitta days before the drip guy. As with a regular drip coffee maker, this is interesting because you: 1) choose the brew strength you want; 2) select the desired number of cups; 3) Choose whether to use the "Bloom" option, which increases the time and strength of the pour; 4) Pour the specified amount of water into the tank and; 5) The machine will tell you how much ground coffee to put in the basket and with the built in electronic scale it will tell you when you have the correct weight in the basket for your settings. If you want to use this as a spout, pull back the spray head and heat the water in the kettle. Then use the gooseneck kettle to pour in the coffee powder to achieve the desired bloom. The machine will indicate how much coffee you should use for the number of cups and desired brew strength, and will weigh your coffee as you place it in the filter basket. It also keeps your coffee warm thanks to its burner, which for me is more like a drip burner. In my opinion, this is more of a fairly innovative filter coffee maker than a real coffee maker. It can be used as a pouring tool, but the pouring is inherently manual and doesn't pretend to be. So you have the choice between sophisticated drip broth or manual pouring. I like the coffee from this coffee maker anyway. I really can't tell any difference. But I'm not a total coffee snob. Perhaps you are a Fill enthusiast. If so, this could still be a good little unit because of the many things it does for you aside from operating as a hybrid drip brewery. Great coffee maker, if a bit unusual.

Pros
  • DON'T GUESS: The built-in scale counts down as you add coffee grounds for manual or automatic brewing. It takes the guesswork out of pouring your coffee by ensuring you add the exact amount of coffee grounds for the exact coffee to water ratio every time.
Cons
  • Makes me angry
