Review on Instreamer - Efficient IP Audio Encoder for High-Quality Streaming by Prem Reyel

Very reliable audio streaming device - no regrets

We originally had a Panasonic audio streamer for several years which they no longer make. It usually crashed every two weeks for some reason. So it had to be restarted manually and then started streaming again. When it finally died, our reason was to replace it with a new reliable device. After many hours of searching for a device that meets our needs, I ended up on the Barix website. After reading what it can do and contacting support, they suggested this instreamer. Although it was too expensive for our purposes, we had no choice as we needed a standalone device that could stream audio directly from the amp's output without the intermediary of a computer. So we took a chance and bought it. Here is our simple setup. The output of the amplifier is connected to the Barix Instreamer, which is then connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable connected to the router. For audio hosting we use Icecast provider. It can also be used with Shoutcast hosting. The device configuration and instructions are somewhat easy to understand. You can email the support team with any questions. They answered me, albeit within a day or two. The quality of the output is very good, but the quality is mainly based on the $$ service that you sign up with the hosting provider. We subscribed to 64 kbps, which is good enough for most audio streams. We didn't need HD quality. If you want to listen to our show to get an idea, it will be broadcast on [.]. But this device turned out to be the most reliable. It has worked for more than six months and as far as I know never failed. I have not received a call or heard from any of our members that the audio is not working. I highly recommend this Barix Instreamer if your setup doesn't have a dedicated computer for audio streaming.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
