If you know what it is, you know why you're buying it. It's simply the best audio encoder for sending audio to Shoutcast V1 and V2 servers as well as Icecast. It takes RCA inputs and encodes them to the server you set up in the web interface. If you want balanced sound, get the Barix Exstreamer 500. I use over 12 different Barix units in Broadcast FM and none of them have died or failed for any reason. The support is helpful and friendly. They are built like a tank and have a great interface.

Update: I recently bought a Barix Exstreamer 100 and compared the sound quality of this instreamer to the sound of the Extreamer and I have to say it's negligible. I still can't get the metadata to work, which is why they lost the star. I'm now good at IP audio, SHOUTcast, internet radio etc but this has made setup difficult for me, manuals are not up to date but customer support has been helpful. This is the only product we could find on the market at a "decent" price that allows you to encode streaming audio without using a computer.
