Pleasantly surprised

Bought this head for a couple uses as "I don't care if I hit it". Given the low price, my expectations were just as low, but I'm really surprised at how good it is. I use it with a Nikon D810 and while it's definitely not designed for larger glass, it does quite well at 70-200 (on a tripod base of course). Ball lock is strong, brakes are good. The bubble levels are a nice touch (the one in the handle lock is clever). I was happy to see that there is a "lock" on the wedge plate, so if you don't turn the quick release all the way it won't slip out (within certain limits). I have a Manfrotto 484RC2 and it is MUCH better (see photos for comparison. Note: the magnetic base pictured is not included. I added that). At 1/3 the price of Manfrotto it's hard to beat. I'm not a paid reviewer - I just order LOTS of stuff from Revain. :-)

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
