Review on DeLonghi ECAM22110SB Silver Espresso Machine, 13.8 Inches by David Caldwell

Balance of price and quality.

I've really weighed the pros and cons of this purchase beforehand and with a product like this it's very hard to know how much to spend on good quality. I am happy to say that I have found a happy medium. At home, I enjoy coffee-quality espresso every day. Like an Austin coffee snob turning his nose up at Starbucks espresso in favor of more subtle notes and experienced baristas, my coffee-in-pod machine just stopped working. DeLonghi is the holy grail for me: every week I can buy fresh, locally roasted beans and grind them as needed, giving me a thick and flavorful foam and a strong drink. Use ground beans and the hottest water and I would still call the espresso smooth (though fantastic). In other words, it's perfect on the strongest setting, but I would never brew it any weaker. I also digest grains fairly quickly and often brew a combination of short and long hits for just 3-4 servings in the morning. The water tank doesn't hold much, so be prepared to refill it with filtered water fairly often. And finally, the cleaning cycle: while I love that the machine cleans itself by running water through it every time you turn it on, it also cleans when you turn it off. Additional cleaning means that most of the water is only used to clean the device. It's a bit strange to use 20% of your water tank just for cleaning. But hey this gets 5 stars because I often prefer my own espresso to a lot of my local shops, it looks beautiful and all my friends love coming to my place.

Pros
  • Simply adjust the menu settings for temperature, coffee strength and cup size to suit your preferences. The machine does the rest.
Cons
  • Some bugs
