Review on Fujinon XF16MmF2 8 WR Lens Silver by Hien Quang ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Cool product, happy with the purchase, maybe I'll buy it again.

This lens was declared as a specimen with high performance. But, in fact, the only thing we have is a good correction of spherical aberrations (except for the barrel, the camera corrects it). Because of what, the edges even at 8.0 do not look sharp. On the official website, and in almost all reviews it is over-praised, in fact it is not very different from the 8-55mm F2.8-4 zoom, which has stabilization, and is cheaper (almost 2 times in the form of a whale). Up to medium aperture values, HA are present. There is a slight fringing, and a distinct blooming. Since it is wide and everything comes out quite small, all the aberrations are not great either. However, you can't deceive physics. they exist, and you can find them if you look for them. Having seen enough reviews (how incredibly beautifully he draws in backlight) I decided to buy it, and was unpleasantly surprised that I didn’t get what I expected. With him, you can almost forget about the backlight. Or spitting on everything - relax and enjoy. The most unpleasant thing is a nasty color spot when a bright light source enters the frame (how many sources, so many green spots). At 2.8 it is a little transparent, but it is worth covering up to the main working values of 5.6 or 8.0 - trouble! It becomes bright and clear. And starting from 16.0, characteristic multi-colored spots from the matrix filter appear in addition. This is due to the reflection of a narrow beam of light from the matrix (short working segment), and back from the rear lens of the objective, scattering on a spherical surface. Which, by the way, they promised to make especially resistant to such reflections! I am silent about 22.0, a completely useless value. Regarding luminosity. The lens is noticeably dark - not suitable for action and reporting on a cloudy day (you will have to choose between blur and noise). The bokeh is nice, but only if you do not turn on the LMO (which harms rather than helps). You can't get a beautiful commercial picture without dancing with a tambourine. Requires deep applied knowledge in photography. For enthusiasts it will be interesting, but only if you understand what you are doing.

Pros
  • beautiful. Protected. contrast.
Cons
  • Aperture. Colored spots and unpleasant green highlights in the backlight. In some ways it loses to whale glasses.
