Review on Enhanced E4200 v2 Router: Linksys Maximum Performance Dual-Band N900 by Dennis Black

If you are interested in parental control/access control. .

is not the router for you. I originally bought version 1 of this router and it was great (you can't get version 1 anymore, not even from Cisco). I need to limit my kids' internet access at times, especially in the summer when I'm at work. When setting up this router, I was very surprised to see what a big step back they took in accessibility features! So, with the new design, you can no longer choose which hours of the day you want to restrict, instead you can choose from a limited range. As I had passed the 30 day return period for this router I had to contact Cisco support to request my case. I've spent hours on the phone and when I finally reached the top level of support and walked them through the limitations of the new design, it was a bit of a shock to get to the point where they realize how stupid the current design is is and that is the highest support level. ! But at least I got my money back. I've tried most of the major brands to find what I was looking for as basic parental controls/access control and almost all of them fell short. I mean I'm the only one looking for these features, I don't know. The only router I'm really happy with is the Asus rt-n66u. You can restrict access to each individual computer at any time of the day on a schedule. You can limit any website to any computer (but not to a schedule). But Asus is also one of the few new routers that supports installing alternative firmware like Pomodoro and offers a feature to re-download the original firmware if you run into a problem.
