It's an unfortunate combination of my car's layout, but the cup holders are mounted behind the shifter and in front of the center console, so it's not easy to open them to leave ash next to my thigh. The cup holder is too big for it, so it makes quite a bit of noise. It is impossible to find in the dark. I usually just pick a cherry and then throw my cigarette butt in here because snuff isn't very good. I might try to find one of those beer can holders that fits better in my cup holder because this thing is smaller than a regular 12 ounce soda can. I wish I could somehow mount it on the front dash because I can't take my eyes off the road long enough to stub out a cigarette here. At first I grabbed it and held it in front of me, but then I have to put out the smoke with both hands. It frustrates me that new cars don't just have built-in ashtrays. However, safety issues with people who decide to smoke having to quickly find a place to put out their smoke sucks.
