Lid hinge broke after a few days. It is not designed with a pen. It's just a folded plastic loop made by injection molding.

Nice looks, space to put out a cigarette, a little smaller than I expected, no light makes it difficult to see at night and I likes aluminum. I'm not sure I'd recommend this one, but it's smooth, sleek, and spring-loaded to close.

Lid will not close or latch. When the lid is closed, there is still a small gap that lets air through and disperses fine particles of pulverized ash throughout the car or room. If this ashtray is knocked over for any reason, the lid will swing open and the ash can squirt out. Small cup size. Hard plastic will NOT melt when a cigarette is stubbed out on it. Plastic bottom and snifter. The only aluminum part is the middle of the case.

It's an unfortunate combination of my car's layout, but the cup holders are mounted behind the shifter and in front of the center console, so it's not easy to open them to leave ash next to my thigh. The cup holder is too big for it, so it makes quite a bit of noise. It is impossible to find in the dark. I usually just pick a cherry and then throw my cigarette butt in here because snuff isn't very good. I might try to find one of those beer can holders that fits better in my cup holder because…
